A custom-made SR-71 titanium, & USS Cavalla Teak Wood Ring (Style #1026), hand crafted from Teak taken from the deck of the WWII Gato Class Submarine, the USS Silversides SS 236, inlaid into mission flown Titanium from the SR-71. The USS Silversides was one of the most successful submarines in the Pacific during WWII with 23 confirmed kills and over 90,000 tons of shipping. She received a Presidential Unit citation and 12 battle stars for her heroic efforts during WW2.
The USS Cavalla was a Gato Class Submarine launched in November 1943. On her maiden patrol en route to the Philippines, the Cavalla encountered a large Japanese Taskforce which included the Aircraft carrier Shokaku, one of the carriers responsible for the devastating Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th, 1941. The Cavalla launched a spread of 5 torpedos at the Shokaku as she was recovering aircraft. Four of the torpedos hit their mark and the Shokaku was sunk. The Cavalla immediately came under a severe depth charge attack by three Japanese destroyers. She survived the depth charging suffering only minor damages. The USS Cavalla was subsequently awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for her actions. The black and white photos show the USS Cavalla and the Shokaku as her aircraft prepared for the Pearl Harbor attack.
