Nanotyrannus lancensis image courtsey of Feenixx Publications Inc.

Nanotyrannus lancensis or "Tiny Tyrant" was a viscious, not so "tiny" predator and a member of a diverse group of theropod dinosaurs collectively known as the Coelurosaurs. Weighing one ton and reaching lenghts of 17 feet, we probably wouldn't consider this viscous predator "tiny" if it were chasing us. It is called "nano" only in relation to it's big cousin Tyrannosaurus rex, which reached lengths of up to 40 feet and six tons! Like its big cousin, Nanotyrannus was a tyrannosaurid and a formitable predator. Like T. rex, Nanotyrannus had large doubly serrated teeth which were used to rip its prey apart. Nanotyrannus had binocular vision and was very agile. It has been estimate that it could sprint at up to 30km per hour over short distances, making Nanotyrannus an extremely dangerous, predator.
