This compelling, large original oil painting is by famed Austrian artist Hans Zatzka (1859-1945). From 1877 to 1882, the Zatzka attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and studied with Christian Griepenkerl, Carl Wurzinger and Carl von Blaas. After living in Italy, he moved back to Austria and worked in Vienna as a freelance painter. Zatzka painted mostly without sketches directly onto the canvas and often used his wife and his daughters as models for his work. Hans Zatzka was known for painting religious scenes and women in rich environments, often with mythological or fantasy themes. He was commissioned to do may church murals. Zatzka was a very popular painter who often signed his pieces under a host of different pseudonyms in order to sell more work out of stipulated contractual agreements. This beautiful painting dipicts a pair of lovely forest nymphs wearing diaphanous, bejeweled gowns, enjoying a warm Spring day. It is in vintage, antique condition. It has a few small holes which could easily be repaired if desired. It is signed under Zatzka's pseudonym of C. Briand. Zatzka paintings have been in demand for over a hundred years and have sold in recent years for over $43,000.00.
