Werner Voss
Born in Krefeld, Germany, Voss joined the German cavalry when he was just 18 years old. He then requested and received a transfer to the German Air Service in 1915. He flew several aircraft, among them the Albatros DIII shown here. He quickly established a reputation of something of a rival to the legendary von Richthofen, and amassed a total of 48 victories which earned him the prestigious Pour le Merite award, also known as the "Blue MaxÓ.
