Spinosaurus Fossils



Spinosaurus aegyptiacus was an enormous carnivorous dinosaur that lived in Africa during the Cretaceous (95-93 million years ago). Spinosaurus grew to between 40 and 60 feet long, and 16 to 20 feet in height! It weighed between 4 to 7 tons, and had a remarkable large sail on its back which reached up to six feet in height. The purpose of this sail is unknown, but it may have played a thermo-regulatory role. It is thought that Spinosaurus may have used its long hand claws and large, conical teeth to catch and devour enormous fish.
