Carcharodontosaurus saharicus was an enormous carnivorous dinosaur that lived in Africa during the Cretaceous (~110-90 million years ago) and represented Africa's version of Tyrannosaurus rex. It was a member of a viscious group of theropod dinosaurs known collectively as Carnosaurs. Other members of this group include Allosaurus, and Giganotosaurus. The name Carcharodontosaurus literally means "shark-toothed lizard". One look at its teeth and it will immediately become apparent why it was so named. It came equipped with enormous doubly serrated teeth up to 8 inches in length! These teeth were like double edged steak knives and would rip though flesh like butter. This enormous meat eater was larger than Tyrannosaurus rex, growing to 45 feet in length and a massive 8 tons!
