Carbonaceous Chondrite / NWA 2364

Here is the newly classified carbonaceous chondrite NWA 2364! This gorgeous chondrite has been provisionally classified as a CV3 (shock level 2) and is reminescent of Axtell and Allende. NWA 2364 is however, a very special CV3 in that enormous, Type B Calcium, Aluminum Inclusions (Type B CAIs) have been found within it. These CAIs appear to be spherical and within some of these spherical Type B CAIs there is chondritic material present (see photo below). This is a phenomenal and perhaps revolutionary discovery as it suggests that the current model for the formation of CAIs could be wrong. According to most theories, CAIs were formed prior to their incorporation into a chondritic matrix. If this model is correct then it is very difficult to account for spherical CAIs containing chondritic material within them. The total weight of NWA 2364 is just 1493 grams and we own all of the NWA 2364 available for sale. While it is not known whether NWA is paired to other CV3s, we believe that it probably will be. So far, NWA 2364 has generated a lot of excitement within the scientific community and is currently under study to further reveal the secrets of its spherical CAIs. As one University of Arizona Scientist put it:

"The inclusion could be important enough to form a consortium of researchers who would study it according to their particular specialty. We are equipped to conduct most of the studies here at the UA. Such an endeavor would take considerable time and allocation of resources on our part. However, it could be a very important sample along the lines of the famous "Blue Angel", "Pink Angel", and "FUN" (Fractionated-Un-Nuclear) CAIs found in other CV3s. You would have a specimen of one of the most studied, well documented, and probably unique inclusions ever found in a carbonaceous chondrite. It has the potential to represent a captured moment in the history of the Solar Nebula not seen before."
